Specialization in the J.D. Curriculum Survey
From a marketing perspective, law schools are finding it beneficial to leverage niche strengths in order to stand out from the competition. But how important are those niches to prospects, students, and employers? As part of Kevin’s studies for a J.D. at the University of Iowa College of Law, he designed a study to examine these issues. The study consists of a series of on-line surveys targeted specifically for prospective students, current students, NALP member law firm hiring coordinators, practicing attorneys, and law school faculty/administrators. There were over 2500 combined completed surveys. Over1200 surveys were completed by prospects, and a little over 800 surveys were completed by current students. A mailing to 2700 faculty (a random sample from each ABA accredited school) has yielded over 300 completed surveys. An email to just over 1200 NALP hiring firm coordinators yielded 120 completed surveys. A very small handful of practicing attorneys, 82, also completed the survey.
